Door-to-Door

How door-to-door shipping works

Door-to-door means exactly what it says: the driver comes to your address to pick up the vehicle, and delivers it to the address you specify at the other end. You never drive to a terminal, wait in line, or arrange a ride home. It is included in every quote we provide and is the standard for the entire industry today.

The one caveat is physical access. A fully loaded car hauler is about 75 feet long, 13.5 feet tall, and weighs up to 80,000 pounds. It cannot make tight turns, go under low branches, or park on many residential streets. When your street isn't accessible, the driver will ask to meet at the nearest safe location: a shopping center parking lot, a wide main road, a school lot after hours, or a highway-adjacent business. This is normal, it is usually within a mile or two, and it never costs extra.

New Jersey streets and what to expect

Many older New Jersey neighborhoods, from Paterson's Eastside to Asbury Park's waterfront blocks to the lagoon streets of Brick and Toms River, have narrow roads, dense parking, and mature trees. Our dispatchers know which streets work and which don't, and will suggest a meeting point when you book so there are no surprises on pickup day. Apartment and condo buildings with gated lots or underground parking almost always require meeting on the street or in a nearby lot.

Delivery to someone else

The delivery address doesn't have to be yours. We regularly deliver to a child at college, a parent in Florida, a buyer who purchased your car, a dealership, or a storage facility. Give us the recipient's name and phone number so the driver can coordinate directly. Whoever receives the car must be over 18 and able to inspect and sign for it.

Businesses, dealerships, and storage

Commercial pickups and deliveries are easy: dealer lots, body shops, storage facilities, and auction yards are built for trucks. Let us know the business hours and any gate or release requirements so the driver arrives prepared.

Tips for a smooth pickup

  • Have the car accessible and running, with about a quarter tank of fuel
  • Remove personal items, toll tags, and parking passes
  • Be reachable by phone on pickup day
  • Have a set of keys ready for the driver
  • Photograph the car before the driver arrives
  • If meeting elsewhere, confirm the spot with the driver the day before
FAQ

Door-to-Door Shipping questions

Is door-to-door more expensive?

No. Door-to-door service is included in every quote we provide. There is no terminal-to-terminal discount because terminal shipping is rarely offered anymore.

What if the truck can't get to my house?

The driver will arrange a nearby meeting point, typically a parking lot or wide street within a mile or two. Your dispatcher will flag this when you book if your address is likely to need it.

Can I have the car delivered to a different person?

Yes. Provide the recipient's name and phone number and the driver will coordinate directly with them. They must be over 18 to sign for the vehicle.

Do you deliver to storage units or military bases?

Storage facilities, yes, during their business hours. Military bases require the recipient to meet the driver at the gate, since carriers generally can't enter base.
