Pricing Guide

How much does it cost to ship a car from New Jersey?

The honest answer is that it depends on six things, and the quote tool at the top of this page weighs all of them in about 30 seconds. But here is how the pricing actually works, with real ranges, so you can judge any quote you receive, from us or anyone else.

Typical open-transport prices from New Jersey

DestinationSedanSUV / PickupEnclosed (sedan)
New York / Connecticut / Massachusetts$350–$600$450–$750$600–$950
Virginia / North Carolina$600–$850$700–$1,000$950–$1,300
Georgia / South Carolina$750–$1,000$850–$1,150$1,150–$1,550
Florida$900–$1,300$1,000–$1,500$1,400–$2,000
Illinois / Ohio / Michigan$800–$1,100$900–$1,250$1,250–$1,700
Texas$1,100–$1,500$1,250–$1,700$1,700–$2,300
Colorado$1,200–$1,600$1,350–$1,800$1,850–$2,500

California / Washington$1,400–$1,900$1,550–$2,150$2,200–$3,000

Ranges reflect typical carrier rates for operable vehicles with a flexible pickup window. Peak season, expedited service, inoperable vehicles, and oversized vehicles are higher. These are estimates, not quotes.

The six things that set your price

  1. Distance and route. Longer trips cost more in total but less per mile. Busy lanes (New Jersey to Florida, Atlanta, Dallas) are cheaper per mile than lanes to small towns because more carriers compete for the load.
  2. Vehicle size and weight. A full-size SUV or crew-cab pickup takes more trailer space and weight capacity than a compact sedan, so it costs $100 to $300 more on most lanes. Lifted trucks, dually pickups, and oversized vans cost more still.
  3. Open vs. enclosed. Enclosed transport runs 40 to 60 percent more than open. See enclosed transport for when it's worth it.
  4. Operability. A vehicle that doesn't run needs a winch and more loading time, adding roughly $100 to $200. A vehicle that doesn't roll needs special equipment and costs more.
  5. Timing and flexibility. A two- to three-day pickup window gets the best rate. Expedited pickup within 24 to 48 hours adds $200 to $500. Peak snowbird season (October to December and March to May) raises Florida and Arizona prices by 10 to 25 percent.
  6. Fuel and market conditions. Carrier rates track diesel prices and seasonal supply. The quote you see reflects today's market and is locked when you book.

What "all-in" means

Our quotes include the carrier's rate, fuel, tolls, the carrier's cargo insurance, loading and unloading, and door-to-door service. There are no fuel surcharges, "insurance fees," or delivery fees added at the door. The number you see is the number you pay unless you change the service after booking.

How to spot a lowball quote

Auto transport is a marketplace: brokers post loads at a price, and carriers choose which to accept. A quote that is $200 or more below everyone else's is usually a price no carrier will take. The car sits, the company calls back to "find a carrier" at a higher price, and you've lost a week. Ask any company two questions: is this price guaranteed, and when will a carrier actually be assigned? If the answers are vague, so is the price.

Ways to save

  • Give a flexible pickup window of 2–3 days
  • Book 1–2 weeks ahead (2–3 in snowbird season)
  • Choose open transport for daily drivers
  • Ship to or from a major metro when you can
  • Ship two cars together to the same destination
  • Ask about the military discount if you qualify
FAQ

Pricing questions

What is the average cost to ship a car from New Jersey?

Most open-transport shipments from New Jersey fall between $600 for short regional moves and $1,800 for cross-country, with Florida typically $900 to $1,300 for a sedan. Enclosed adds 40 to 60 percent. The quote tool gives an exact all-in price for your route and vehicle.

Why did my quote change from last month?

Carrier rates move with fuel prices and seasonal demand. The Florida lane, for example, is more expensive in late October than in July. Your price is locked when you book.

Are there any fees not in the quote?

No. Our quotes are all-in: fuel, tolls, carrier insurance, loading, and door-to-door service are included. The only additions would be changes you request after booking, such as switching to enclosed or expedited.

Is a cheaper quote from another company real?

Sometimes it's a lowball: a price posted to carriers that no carrier will accept, which means your car sits for weeks until the broker raises it. Ask any company whether the price is guaranteed and when a carrier is actually assigned.

Do I pay a deposit?

Payment terms are explained clearly at booking. Typically a portion is paid when a carrier is assigned and the balance at delivery; the quote tool and your dispatcher will spell it out before you commit.
